In early 2010, clarinettist Jenny Lavine teamed up with violinist Jeff Yelton and bassist Andre LaVelle to play a mix of traditional jazz standards and klezmer tunes. The group became The Sizzle Sticks after guitarist/vocalist Stacy Glen Tibbetts joined in fall 2010.

Their first gig at Sugar On Top cafe drew a spirited crowd of dancers,
a Daily Collegian writer took note, and the group was on its way.

In Spring 2011, Jenny was replaced by clarinettist Herschel Pangborn, and the group began a new focus on playing traditional swing tunes, done in a "hot" 1930s style. A string of dates at The Darkhorse Tavern and The Autoport in late 2011 helped the group develop its signature sound. Monthly dates at Webster's Cafe now make The Sizzle Sticks part of the lively State College, PA music scene.

The Sizzle Sticks have featured some excellent guest musicians, including trombonist Chris Gamble on many occasions, saxophonist Kate Anderson, drummer Steve McDonald, and bassists Tom Jordan and Jim Robinson.
